Yesterday, M. Night Shyamalan confirmed he will begin filming his next movie, After Earth, next week via Twitter.
Crew leaving for Costa Rica already. A year and half of writing and prep is coming to an end. #AfterEarth will begin shooting on Feb. 6th.
The movie’s screen writer, Gary Whitta, also tweeted about the shoot, adding some details about the rest of the film’s schedule.

The Philadelphia portion of filming is expected to begin in late February/early March and last through the end of April. Heery Casting is handling extras for the film, though no Open Casting Calls have been announced yet.
The movie is set in a future in which humans no longer live on Earth after it becomes inhospitable. Will Smith is playing a hero, while Jaden Smith (his real life son) plays his on screen son, a failure as a warrior. When the two crash-land on Earth, it’s up to Jaden’s character to save his dad.
